Album Mention
>>
Sitting at my desk on another gray-hued Monday, I discovered the new Afro-beat album from Chopteeth, and immediately–at first without noticing–began tapping my foot on the carpet. What’s more, the music from this recently released album actually had the effect of raising my spirits, and with that, Chopteeth Live became the pick for this week’s Music Monday.
Click ‘play’ on the YouTube video above and listen for the five-minute duration. Try not tapping your foot or moving your head–it will be as hard as trying not to chew with a mouth full of food. That’s because the genre of music that Chopteeth plays–African pop–is traditionally played live in front of a swaying, bouncing, energetic crowd. Movement is like a reflex to their sounds.
In order to create a lineup of songs with traditional Afropop beats, Chopteeth researched the “Golden Age” Afrobeat tracks from the ’70s and interviewed musicians in Africa to create an authentic sound. What transpired is the potent compilation of Chopteeth Live, infused heavily with horns and the consistent popping of percussion, which inspires movement in even the most sedentary person.
So, if you’re approaching today with any level of lackluster performance, go here to sample songs from the album and, as usual, enjoy!
