The innovative, around-the-world program features the music masters of 3 different Middle Eastern countries, performing together on one stage; also the National Music Champion of Vietnam playing on the Dan Tranh and the Dan Bau, an award-winning Hawaiian slack-key guitarist, a young Grammy-nominee jazz pianist, Native-American and Brazilian melodies, and the world premiere of a new piece by the popular Israeli film composer Avner Dorman! This special concert has been organized by Listen for Life as a way to celebrate music's power as a force for unity, nourishment, inspiration, and cross-cultural dialogue at the start of this new year. Grab some friends, relatives and neighbors of all ages, and introduce them to these exotic traditional instruments and magical sounds, so that they will have music-listening alternatives that will impact their lives in a positive way for the coming year!
Our goal is to encourage our children/youth, in particular, to realize the positive power and potential of music traditions from their own background or culture, and indeed from all cultures, so that they can be more aware of some exciting, positive listening alternatives in the midst of the hiphop and rap that surrounds them 24/7.
Listen for Life has greatly discounted the ticket prices so that ALL people can experience Carnegie's atmosphere AND the unique sounds/instruments of "the Power of Eight": 8 internationally renowned artists, representing 8 world cultures, playing on 8 unique instruments, at 8pm on January 8th - (for discount tickets see www.listenforlife.org/carnegie or to apply for an ever deeper discount or a comp ticket based on extreme need, call 510 540 8136 at the Listen for Life offices).
