In Brazil, the term MPB doesn’t just mean Música Popular Brasileira (Popular Brazilian Music). It refers to a songwriting tradition which includes artists Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, and Marisa Monte. Beginning in the late 1960s, these artists borrowed from bossa nova, jazz, rock, and regional Brazilian rhythms to define the late 20th century sound of Brazil. Pedro Moraes is one of the newest talents to pick up the MPB torch. On “Xote de Manha,” Pedro delivers a detailed instrumental arrangement to compliment his euphonious vocal style. 09/22/10
