Loyal reader, you know that here at Incognito, we like to go far off the beaten path to find music for you. I will tell you this, it is hard to go further off of any beaten path than with Sarah Aroeste. Not that her music is something you’ve never heard before. It is different, but it falls pretty easily into the pop/rock category. What makes this artist rare is that she sings a Judeo-Spanish language called Ladino. And her voice is really something. In her press materials, she is described as Yasmin Levy meets Alanis Morissette. Frankly, I can see the comparison to Yasmin Levy, but to compare Aroeste to Alanis Morissette is a gross insult to Aroeste. Her voice is much sweeter than Morissette’s. Check out Aroeste’s album, Gracia, available Tuesday. 05/20/12
