For all the aspiring yogis out there, we know that when channeling transcendental energy, nothing helps focus the mind like music. Especially music that is downtempo, steady, deep, luminous, and somewhat dark. EarthRise Sound System, Derek Beres and David “Duke Mushroom” Schommer, have put together an album of remixed chants and percussive elements that will definitely focus the mind.
Garrett from Flipswitch PR describes the album perfectly:
Beres knows well from his five years of teaching yoga at Manhattan’s Equinox Fitness what his students crave musically: bass. Enter Duke Mushroom, whose award-nominated album, Bole 2 Harlem, merged Ethiopian sounds with New York City rhythms. As EarthRise SoundSystem, Beres—a longtime DJ and influential music journalist—and Mushroom—a producer, writer, and performer who has played on over 50 records in the past two decades—united their experiences to create an album that moves people from the inside out, a quality apparent throughout its twelve dynamic tracks.
These two cats know what they're doing when it comes to putting beats together. While these tracks might not fit into the dance party category, they're perfect for the inbetween moments when you're working, reading, meditating, practicing your headstand, etc. The album doesn't offically drop until January 2010, but you can check out the tracks on their myspace in the meantime. 11/04/09
