Bio

Producer + Remixers

Director KATHI VON KOERBER:
Kathi von Koerber Director, Filmmaker and Dancer.

Born in South Africa to German parents, Kathi has been a global nomad right from the start. Raised in Africa and Europe she also lived in China studying mandarin and oriental painting, and later studied film in New York. Currently she lives between Colombia and New York.

Her projects are achieved by collaborating with people from all over the world in all mediums of expression. By drawing inspiration from the world's constant evolution, and by challenging the boundaries of film and dance, she approaches the deep wells of our subconscious behavior, and attempt to expose our species destiny through ritual, performances or films. The trance and intuitive movements of these rituals become a matter of fact.

Kathi is the director of the company Kiahkeya productions ( www.kiahkeya.com) founded in 2004, which serves to inform and disseminate art, creativity and spirituality for the purpose of cross cultural and environmental equality and tolerance. Kathi has worked on projects with the Bushmen tribe of Southern Africa, and the Xawante and Fulnio who live in Brazil, The Tamashek Nomads of the Sahara, the Zulu and San ( Bushmen) of Southern Africa, the Lakota of the US, etc. Kathi searched to explore the universality of dance as an art form, and our connection to the earth. Kiahkeya projects are efforts to support the environment and its inhabitants, preserve indigenous wisdom, music, and dance in this modern day and age.

Upcoming projects for release in 2010 include a short documentary on the San/Bushmen of Southern Africa and a feature length environmentally conscious Butoh dance film named “Ridden by Nature”. The film is a tribute to the elements that compose the earth, bringing to the forefront the currently strained relationship of humanity with the earth’s ecology in hopes to inspire state and community action in response to the current environmental crisis. ‘Ridden by Nature’ witnesses the immense power of the earth’s biosphere through the art of film, dance and music, revealing the fierce and sacred existence of these visually stunning environments.
Kathi is starting an awareness project on the power and importance of Water, which will be implemented by an informational Website and a Movie in 2011; called Moving Waters.

All of Kathis projects, are related to communicating through vibrations of sound, light and essence. Kathi believes that true education is deep understanding of life.

Adham Shaikh
A composer, record producer and sound designer living near Nelson, B.C..

His present 15-year history with music began by exploring synthesizers in the early 1980s, which ushered in a whole new frontier of musical experiments and explorations. In the early 1990s, Shaikh found the electronic music scene full of innovative and explorative sounds. This environment created an opportunity for him to present his compositions to an audience already embracing electronic music. Shaikh furthered his electro acoustic composition at Queen's University and has continued making music resulting in his present diverse discography.

Shaikh's music is a blend of many different styles and techniques. It is a world groove blend of fusion, dub, world beat, tech house, ambient, and jazz. From growing up listening to Indian ragas and Western classical music, he developed an ear for a fusion of sounds from around the world. This musical blend of styles and traditions inspire his compositions. The 21st-century rituals of dance and chill-out have drawn Shaikh to explore the trance phenomenon that these different expressions of music create and allow.

Cheb i Sabbah
A world renowned artist, composer and producer. Cheb i Sabbah left his native Algeria in the 1960s, and has made a career out of blending music from all over the world into kaleidoscopic, dance-floor mixes ever since.
The Algerian-born musical mystic got his start spinning American soul in mid-1960s Paris as a scrubby 17-year-old. But his outernational obsession didn't really take hold until 1980, when he launched a Parisian monthly club featuring Brazilian, North African, and Indian sounds, along with accompanying dancers and visuals.

His approach to music reflects a passion for bringing people together. "Dance music can only grow bigger, because it's one way all people [can] have some sort of communion that's not present in Western society."
