Afrobeat band renovates sound
The eight-piece San Francisco band Aphrodesia will “turn everything on its head and send it through the distortion pedals of their own sensibility” next Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 9:30 p.m. in the Twisp River Pub.
With its new recording, Precious Commodity, the band members map their journey from the worship of Afrobeat to an innovative and mad pursuit of their own vision for creating a diverse palette of instruments and sonic surprises. And they write passionate songs.
“As lyricists we carefully consider our invocations and intentionally apply them to our current political world struggles and our own fractured American reality,” said singer Lara Maykovich. “Since the voice of suffering is universal and passion is interchangeable, we don’t consider this a borrowed tradition. It’s one of the many traditions of mystery spiritual beings have originated from.” Admission to the show is $10. For more information, call 997-6822.
Aphrodesia will pile into the Twisp pub on Wednesday night. 08/12/09
