On 'Tewesta' The Addis Acoustic Project, brainchild of guitarist Girum Mezmur play mostly instrumental versions of Ethiopian songs of the 1950s and 60s on accordion, guitar, mandolin, clarinet and accordion.
During his research for the project, accordionist/guitarist Girum came across composer and mandolinist Ayele Mamo, who was a member of the Imperial Body Guard Orchestra and has been playing for over 5 decades including duets with legendary vocalists Mahmoud Ahmed and Tilahun Gesesse. Dawit Ferew's sinuous clarinet is particularly pleasing too.
