While Malian guitarist Lobi Traoré denied any connection between his raucous Bamako bar music and American blues, the echoes of Southside Chicago are all over this rowdy posthumous set – however indirectly.
With plaintive rural melodies colliding with jagged guitar lines, lunging bass and skittering xylophones in a cavernous, reverb-laden well of sound, this is probably the best representation of Traore’s unique style.
