Canadian First Nations duo Digging Roots and their assembled group of musical accompanists have produced a delightfully positive and thoughtful set of tracks for their second album, We Are.
Super-talented vocalist ShoShona Kish and her partner, guitarist/vocalist Raven Kanataktka, make their mantra for the album, and apparently their lives, plain with the title track, claiming, "We are so much more than all this war and destruction."
The 10 tracks here are mostly built on easy-rolling, well-delivered indie-roots tunes with a decidedly considerate and forward-thinking edge. It is absolutely inspiring to hear these artistic people make such luminous musical statements about understanding exactly what young aboriginal people should be doing to push away from what their surroundings may be telling them is their only reality.
