Starting off in a very traditional Indian rhythm of sitar-driven lingering in “Rising Up,” producer Tarun Nayar’s solo-debut morphs into a deeply chill, electro-inspired and highly eclectic world beat collection of songs not unlike things heard from Nayar’s main group, Delhi 2 Dublin. In some ways not unlike some of the massively consumable Ministry of Sound series, the tracks on 22˚of Beatitude have a very assorted and sometimes less-than-challenging sound — yet, here it doesn’t come across as overly cheap or dull because of an inherent and proven authenticity. Trained as a tabla (Indian drum) player, Nayar fuses conventional sounds of the Middle East and the subcontinent with a varied set of great beat styles and rhythms. “Kezang La” is inspired by a more subtle and deep hip hop beat, while “Daybreak” is a crunchy, hectic house beat over top of layered sitar. A debut of impressive variation, deeply relaxing quality, and layered, inspired sounds. Catch Tarun Nayar at the Starlite, Feb. 20.
