DJ/remixer/producer Banco De Gaia's Songs From The Silk Road presents a musical journey, with it's mix of electronica tracks that travel the globe. From Tibetan Trance to UK House with a stop over for some tasty Jamaica dub style.
The first two tracks, Farewell Ferengista and B2 are on the mellow side, but Toby Marks, "Banco de Gaia", ramps up pace on Last Train to Lhasa and further increases the vibe on Sheesha. A club track that you would hear at a dance club late in to the evening.
Banco is always moving his music rhythmically forward in to uncharted sonic territories. On Tempra, the fifth track we get into a nice old school Jamaica dub style flavor, but wait the off beat is not a snare drum but a hit on an Indian tabla drum, tasty! His flair for dub style continues with Glove Puppet the Dreadzone Remix. Deeper in disc "Not in My Name" evokes a imaginary cathedral in the sky, with long bowed textural sonorities supporting the angelica female lead vocals. Closing this collection of live and studio tracks is "Touching the Void." A multi layered 'chill' track captures Banco's perspective on 'global electroinca.'
Banco De Gaia music ebbs and flows like the ocean waves crashing against the shore. with elements moving from the background to foreground effortlessly. It will take more then a causal listen to fully appreciate the depth of Banco De Gaia's music.
