Telepath is a worldwide music project–one that has united a variety of talented global artists on this album, Crush, by way of modern technology. The man behind it all is Michael Christie (he goes by Telepath in his artistic endeavors), an American musician and producer who gathered some of the contributors to his latest album by using the technology behind it all: the internet. From World Music Central:
“I definitely wanted to feature a bunch of different singers, rather than dedicating an album to just one voice. So then it became a matter of spreading the word — sending out all these messages in bottles to anyone I could think of that would know somebody who knew somebody. And in the end, they all came to the project in different ways. Some I had worked with before, some were friends of friends, and some were found via the internet.”
This unique form of collaboration, in which some of the artists created their own work and simply e-mailed it to Christie, enabled musicians who might never meet to work together on a piece of audio art. It also led to such a widespread range of musical styles–including reggae, Afropop, Indian folk and Jamaican dance hall–that might otherwise not find themselves on the same record.
In total, Crush yields 9 singers and 12 instrumentalists, and makes for an obviously versatile soundtrack. If you’re not in the mood for one style of music–or if you simply feel like listening to something eclectic and inspiring, you can preview the tracks or purchase the entire CD here
