Led by violinist Hannah Thiem, who has shared the stage with Kanye West and the Rolling Stones among others, Copal blends haunting violin with cello and drum rhythms to create its global, folktronic soundscape. The band's debut, Into the Shadow Garden, is out on Thursday and showcases the New York-based band's vast musical influences—from Eastern Europe to the Middle East to Scandinavia. "This project is deeply personal—a merging of textures, sounds, ideas, melodies, and the internal landscape of my thoughts and dreams," Thiem says. You can download "Ceútara" right here. Tonight, two belly dancers will also perform with the five-piece Copal at Drom. 11/04/10
