•Oreka TX (7 p.m. Instituto Cervantes Chicago; $10-$15) The once-endangered percussion instrument known as the txalaparta (consisting of wooden planks laid over trestles that are then struck with sticks) powers the sound of Basque duo Harkaitz Martinez de San Vincente and Igor Otxoa. Banned during Spain’s Franco regime as a symbol of Basque identity, the txalaparta “is shrouded in mystery,” Martinez said. “After almost disappearing in the ’60s, it’s now a young instrument, and anything you do is new.” 09/21/10
