This musical collective from Colombia has one mission for you, to dance. Their use of Afro-Caribbean and Electronic elements complement the Folkloric-Colombian music they play. This powerful combination is something that no music fan should miss, and this band promises to deliver a full serving of it on their debut CD, which was released last year. Their live shows are audio-visual feasts the band likes to call "Berbenautika," inspired by the tradition of Colombian sound systems, "pikos," and local Colombian parties, "verbena." If you see them, bring a towel, this "System" brings a powerful pack of heat to the house.

Describe your sound in your own words.

We are the crew of the Berbenautiko and crossunderstolendiko's sound!!!

How did your band form?

We were born during the making of the Colombian Hip Hop documentary "Frekuensia Colombiana" in which we had the opportunity to share and exchange our musical ideas, previous experiences from participating in various music and art festivals and free access to new technologies. Our first presentation happened in November 2006, during the "Encuentro Medellín 07" event, in Medellín, Colombia.

What are your musical influences?

All the Berbenautikas! Afrodiasporica music, which from the Colombian Caribbean has transformed into Cumbia, Bullerenque, Guarachas, Chalupas, Chandé, Son Corrido, Porro, Champeta, soukuos, Afrobeat, Reggae,Funk, Hip Hop, Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and groups like Los Corraleros de Majagual, Andrés Landeros, Pedro Ramayá, Anibal Velasquez among others...

How did you come up with your band name?

We came to the conclusion of this name because we share a taste for the Sound System culture that is known in Colombia as "Cultura Pikotera," and its link to the Rave culture. We are the system reigned by the Sun! From the Colombian Caribbean.

What's the craziest thing you've seen or experienced while on tour?

During a concert in the Barranquilla Carnavals of 2010, some of the audience came up to the stage to dance and sing with us and the director of the event wanted to take them off the stage.

What's your musical guilty pleasure?

No!

What's in your festival survival kit?

Our "pikotero" announcements" to put on the stage. 03/17/10 >> go there
