As a yoga beginner and two-week-old blogger, I’ve barely scratched the surface of cool yoga stuff out there. Surfing on Sunday, I found a post on the EarthRise SoundSystem blog about it’s collaboration the night before at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health with Sandhi Ferreira for her yoga hoop performance…

The piece they did in the video felt like a super rich tapestry of cultures, styles and instruments: the sacred meets groove… eastern drum rhythms morphing into and out of world beats… and maybe a sense of trance-like funk chanting. I really liked it, and it was way outside the box of what I’d been listening to for my home practice.
I found EarthRise SoundSystem Radio on Pandora right away and included the group in a blog entry earlier this week on my yoga-friendly Pandora stations.
On Tuesday, Derek Beres, who along with David Schommer are EarthRise SoundSystem, posted a comment in response with a link to their website….

I liked the samples from their debut album, The Yoga Sessions, so much that I bought the album. Derek is also a yoga teacher in NYC, and songs are sequenced for what feels like a 60 to 70 minute yoga session: warm up/intention setting -> flow -> cool down -> savasana.
Just really enjoying this yoga tribal music and hope you take a listen when you get a chance.
Namaste, Derek and David.
