They call their music "dusk-core", an evocative term for a genre-busting collusion. Justin Adams, Lu Edmonds and Ben Mandelson are all grounded in Brit rock, but are better known for forays into world music. Adams's guitar speciality is clanging desert blues, Edmonds's sax conjures middle eastern flavours and Mandelson's mandolin traverses the Balkans. A legion of influences and instruments tumbles over one another, however: "Gulaguajira" is a stalking, Cuban affair, "Turns the Worm" is lilting English folk and "Black Earth Boys" a West African work-out. The playing is mesmeric and the good humour infectious. 09/20/09
