Cultural Cannibals,
Artist Interview
>>
This is the first edition of a new Cultural Cannibals feature. Each week we’ll ask a different artist to share their 5 favorite Indian albums. We’ll be examining a variety of South Asian music genres: Bollywood, Asian Undergound, Bhangra, classical etc. For our inaugural edition we’re honored to present a list from one of our favorite producers: Janaka Selekta.
Janaka Selekta is one of the most compelling figures to have emerged from the Asian Underground scene in recent years. I spoke with the Sri Lankan born, San Francisco based DJ-producer, and asked him to share some of his musical influences. Check out the results below and absolutely check out Janaka’s brilliant new LP Pushing Air, available for purchase here.
Dont miss Janaka Selekta live at Bhangratheque in Chicago this Friday, July 30 at the Funky Buddha Lounge – more info here. Hosted by DJ Jimmy Singh, Bhanratheque is the premiere Indian music event in the midwest!
