I loved Boy Without God when I first heard the track “City Kids”. Gabe’s got this baritone voice that bears some serious weight. Like all the sadness and troubles found their way into the depths of his vocals and you can hear his life like you can see laugh lines on someone’s face. It’s really beautiful.
Then there’s the trumpets, female harmonies, finger picking and all the rest to make it feel like a fully complete album. More than just bedroom recordings, but a whole, realized thought.
Standout tracks include “Of Cowboys and Other Beautiful Men”, “City Kids” and “Sha La La” which has this fifties doo-wop vibe to it.
The album comes out on 6/21- and it’s called “God Bless the Hunger”. I don’t know why. And word is Mike of Faces on Film sang on a couple of the tracks, so you know I’m already in love with it.
