SATURDAY 16: AFRO ROOTS WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL The 13th edition of this Miami-Dade County-funded celebration of the Afro-roots genre will be headlined by Haiti’s Boukman Eksperyans, which for more than two decades and with a large cast of players has spread the gospel of vodou beyond the beleaguered shores of Hispaniola. The festival also will present South Florida’s Grammy-nominated worldbeat group Locos por Juana, performing with Ghanian singer Rocky Dawuni; Miami reggae act Jahfe; and the Spam All-Stars (yes, them again, and that’s not a complaint), who will be joined onstage by Senegalese djembe player Papa Malick Faye. David “Lebo” Le Batard, meanwhile, will dip into his brightly hued palette and paint throughout the evening. A series of attendant events will lead up to the festival, beginning with Wednesday’s kickoff party at the Stage with DJ Le Spam (ibid) and Jean P Jams and continuing with Thursday’s rumba showcase at Hoy Como Ayer featuring Los Herederos. For the festival’s complete schedule, visit its Facebook page. Location: 7th Circuit Productions, 228 N.E. 59th St., Miami Time: 5 p.m.-3 a.m. Cost: $15 Contact: 305-757-7277 or Facebook.com/afrorootsworldmusicfestival 04/12/11
