Israeli composer and Hebrew Qawwali singer Shye Ben-Tzur will be combining Pakistani qawwali singing and Rajasthani folk music with Hebrew and Sufi devotional poetry, and even a smidgen of flamenco guitar, in his upcoming 'Shoshan Live! shows at Shuni in Binyamina, Israel on April 24 and at Reading in Tel Aviv on April 30.
Born in Israel, Ben-Tzur has been living in India for a decade. He arrived in search of a classical music teacher. After years of study in Ajmer, he felt he could better express himself in Hebrew, taking the Urdu poetry of qawwali and translating it into something palpable and understandable for his native kin. Since his 2003 debut, 'Heeyam (Supreme Love),' Ben-Tzur has toured tirelessly spreading the devotional music of Pakistan in his own unique voice. 03/01/10
