Algiers- The King of Rai Khaled tells in this interview about his relations with Morocco and denies all the statements that were attributed to him in the press.

  • He denies having qualified the Algerian army of Nazi, relating to the case of deported Moroccans in 1975 and talks about his relationship with the King of Morocco and the Prince of Rai Mami.

Recently, you've been a media target by some newspapers. Is it true what they say?

I consider what has been published as bullshit and empty words. These are just lies that have no relation to reality. The strangest thing is that the newspaper in question refers to an article published by the Moroccan press, but my agent found no article on me and no statement. I made no statements to any Moroccan newspaper. These are parties who want to destroy me and tarnish my image, trying to make me involved in policy between two countries and two neighbouring peoples who love and respect each others. Believe me, there is no problem between Algeria and Morocco. I know many Algerians settled in Morocco and many Moroccans in Algeria. I grew up in a district in Oran, where our neighbours were Moroccans who like Algeria, and who experienced the war in Algeria with the Algerian people.

You say you are a victim of a conspiracy. Can you tell us who is behind?

Behind this plot is the devil. Unfortunately it is an Algerian whom I helped and assisted before but who has denied my good deeds. He wanted me dirty and I refuse to answer him because I know him well. They want to destroy Rai music. After Mami, it's my turn, but they don’t know me. I have grown old in the art and I would not stop. They can not stop me. I bring a message of peace. Rai today conveys a noble message. I sang for peace and love. I'm trying to create a culture of peace among young Algerians. I am the example of young Algerian who has just succeeded abroad. I will not deny that my songs are broadcast in centers for regularization of migrant situations. They advise them to follow my example.

You talked about Mami. What do you think of his case?

Mami is a good person. A friend despite what had happened between us. We are brothers and had shared moments of joy together. He is a young man and he exposed to error as anyone. I salute his courage for assuming responsibility. I blamed him for having fled his responsibilities at the beginning and have lost years in hiding. But his decision to settle once and for all this and having assumed his responsibilities, although he suffered in one way or another, he was a man. We must support him. I will not deny that I was always at his side in spite of all the problems but I forgave him.

Let’s come back to the media campaign against you.

They accused me of crazy things. I've never qualified the Algerian army of Nazi. The army is an institution which oversees the country's security. We must be proud of it. As for the problems between Algeria and Morocco, these are just common problems that arise between neighbors, but in adversity, the brother supports his brother and puts aside all the problems. Let me clarify something: I often hear that Khaled maintains special relations with Morocco, including the king. It is true, I do have participated in special festivals and met the King Mohammed VI, but we must not interpret it otherwise. I do not take my coffee with the king. I respect him in his capacity as monarch of a brother country.
